How to Choose a Provider

Here are some recommendations for choosing the right provider to meet your child’s needs:

Visit Several Providers

We recommend visiting multiple Providers and asking specific questions of the Providers and other Parents with children at the facility. Use our Checklist of Child Care Questions for Providers and Parents for questions to ask during your visit.

Review Provider Policies and Fees

Providers should be able to tell you what they charge for care, and what their enrollment policies are. Parents need to make sure they agree with those policies and can afford the cost of care before enrolling their child.

Do a Background Check

All Child Care workers are required to undergo a comprehensive background check. If you are considering a licensed child care option, you can contact the State of Nevada Child Care Licensing at 702-486-7918 to make sure your chosen provider has a current, valid operating license and to find out if the provider is the subject of any complaints or legal action. For non-licensed/exempt providers (FFNs, recreation centers, etc.) you can check inspection reports for the provider here.
